Scope. This assessment is based on pedigree, close-family performance, sire racing profile and available mating evidence. Physical, cardiovascular and veterinary findings are outside the present analysis.

Executive Racing Read

Hip 206 profiles as a dirt-oriented colt with a speed-to-middle-distance identity, moderate juvenile expectations and considerably more appeal as a developing three-year-old and older horse.

The pedigree has an unusually strong toughness component. Cody's Wish developed from an unraced juvenile into an 11-time winner, five-time Grade 1 winner and Horse of the Year. Drop a Hint made 20 starts over four seasons, won a stakes race, placed in the Suwannee River [L] and finished third in the Sands Point [G2]. Immediately underneath her, the family repeatedly produces horses that start, win and remain in training.

The principal uncertainty is equally clear. Cody's Wish is a first-crop sire and Drop a Hint has yet to supply racing-age evidence as a producer. The racing case therefore depends more heavily on the sire's own profile, the dam's racing record, the production underneath her and the broader Curlin-line over Into Mischief evidence than it would with a proven stallion or proven first dam.

The preferred mature center is seven furlongs to 1 1/16 miles on dirt, with a mile especially attractive. Nine furlongs sits within the broader range. The pedigree reads more naturally as a high-class miler/intermediate horse than as a classic-distance specialist.

Racing Type

Cody's Wish supplies the dominant racing identity.

  • 11 / 16Wins from starts
  • 5Grade 1 wins
  • $3.1MEarnings
  • 112Top Beyer, 2023 high

He won 11 of 16 starts and $3.1 million, with five Grade 1 victories concentrated between seven furlongs and a mile: two Breeders' Cup Dirt Miles, the Metropolitan Handicap, Forego and Churchill Downs Stakes. His 112 Beyer in the Metropolitan was the highest of the 2023 season. He also demonstrated some extension when third in the nine-furlong Whitney [G1].

His developmental pattern is particularly relevant. Cody's Wish did not race at two. He won three times at three without earning black type, became a multiple Grade 1 winner at four, then reached his peak at five as Horse of the Year and champion older dirt male.

Drop a Hint contributes a different type of evidence. She made 20 starts from two through five, won three races and earned $191,998. Her best Equibase figure was 91. She became a stakes winner at five and had previously finished second in the Suwannee River [L] and Miss Gracie and third in the Sands Point [G2].

The likely racing type is therefore a progressive, high-cruising-speed horse whose strongest expression should come after his juvenile season rather than through pure early precocity.

Surface Projection

Primary projection: dirt.

Cody's Wish supplies an exceptionally strong dirt signal. All five of his Grade 1 victories came on dirt, and his elite form was concentrated around seven furlongs to a mile.

Drop a Hint complicates the surface picture in a useful way. Her black-type record includes turf form, notably her Sands Point [G2] placing and Suwannee River [L] second. The female family therefore gives the subject genuine surface versatility rather than an exclusively dirt pedigree.

Turf2120

Source: TrueNicks rated-cross population for Curlin and his sons over Into Mischief mares.

The broader mating evidence moves the projection back toward dirt. TrueNicks' Curlin-and-sons over Into Mischief population contains 24 dirt starters, with 17 winners and two stakes winners. The same population has 21 turf starters but only two turf winners and no turf stakes winners.

Dirt deserves the first opportunity. Turf remains a legitimate secondary option if the individual ultimately expresses more of Drop a Hint's racing type.

Distance Projection

Working mature optimum: 7 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles. Broader effective range: 6½ furlongs to 1 1/8 miles.

Cody's Wish was at his best from seven furlongs through a mile. His lone Grade 1 attempt at nine furlongs produced a third in the Whitney, providing evidence that his class could stretch beyond his preferred range without making route stamina his defining characteristic.

The rated Curlin-line/Into Mischief population has an average winning distance of 6.94 furlongs. Colts in that sample average 7.17 furlongs when winning.

Drop a Hint supplies enough middle-distance capability to keep 8½ furlongs comfortably in play. Her graded placing came in the Sands Point [G2], while the broader family contains runners capable of succeeding beyond sprint distances.

The most persuasive interpretation is a mile as the center of the profile, with enough flexibility to shorten to seven furlongs or stretch through 1 1/16 miles. Nine furlongs looks achievable if the colt inherits sufficient efficiency and stamina from the Curlin/Tapit side of Cody's Wish.

Development and Precocity

The developmental profile is later juvenile-capable with stronger upside through three and beyond.

Cody's Wish supplies very little direct juvenile evidence because he never raced at two. His progression was substantial: maiden and allowance winner at three, four-time stakes winner at four, Horse of the Year at five.

Drop a Hint did race five times at two, including maiden-special-weight starts at Saratoga, Keeneland and Churchill. She was still a maiden entering her three-year-old season and reached her highest level later.

The family underneath supplies more juvenile functionality. Allude won at two. Imply won 12 races beginning at two. Simply Joking won the Letellier Memorial and Silverbulletday before developing into graded company. Drum Roll Please was Grade 2-placed in the Remsen at two before winning the Jerome.

The pedigree therefore supports racing at two while offering little reason to make early juvenile achievement the central expectation.

The preferred model is educational and useful late at two, substantially more complete at three.

Two-Year-Old Projection

A two-year-old campaign is genetically reasonable, particularly later in the season.

The close family contains enough juvenile participation and success to support development into racing at two, while Cody's Wish and Drop a Hint both encourage patience.

Six to seven furlongs would be the logical starting range. A mile could become relevant later in the juvenile season if the colt develops quickly enough.

A high-pressure early sprint campaign is less consistent with the pedigree than a progression designed to preserve the colt's developmental upside.

Three-Year-Old Projection

The three-year-old season is considerably more compelling.

Cody's Wish made six starts at three and won three consecutive races at a mile. He then improved sharply with maturity. Drop a Hint also improved beyond her juvenile season, and several close-family runners developed their most meaningful form after two.

The likely progression is toward one-mile and intermediate dirt races, with seven-furlong races available if speed proves dominant and 1 1/16 miles a particularly plausible two-turn target.

The pedigree leaves room for nine furlongs, although the evidence becomes less persuasive as the distances extend toward the traditional ten-furlong Classic target.

This reads more like a colt whose best three-year-old opportunities could emerge in high-class one-turn miles and intermediate two-turn races than one whose pedigree requires a Derby-distance campaign.

Class Projection

The pedigree supports graded-stakes upside, with Grade 1 potential on bloodlines accompanied by meaningful first-crop uncertainty.

Cody's Wish brings elite racing ability but no progeny racing record. He is Curlin's only five-time Grade 1-winning son and comes from Dance Card, a Gazelle [G1] winner and 2023 Broodmare of the Year. Dance Card also produced seven-time winner and multiple graded winner Endorsed, while her unraced daughter Dance Music produced Breeders' Futurity [G1] winner East Avenue.

Drop a Hint contributes genuine black type rather than merely pedigree. She was a stakes winner and Grade 2-placed.

The strongest production evidence sits under second dam Allude. Her 10 runners include six winners. IMPLY won 12 races and $772,728. DANCINGINTHECIRCLE was a stakes winner and Grade 3-placed. Refer won four races.

That branch remains active. Imply has produced Simply Joking, a Grade 3 winner who has placed at Grade 1 and Grade 2 level, and Drum Roll Please, winner of the Jerome and third in the Remsen [G2].

The deeper family reaches Horse of the Year Holy Bull through the third dam's immediate family, although that evidence is sufficiently remote that it should support rather than drive the class projection.

The close family offers enough graded quality and repeat production to support a serious ceiling while stopping short of the direct Grade 1 transmission seen in the strongest Book 1 pedigrees.

Pedigree Support and Family Structure

The pedigree combines Curlin/Tapit on top with Into Mischief/Orientate underneath, concentrating several of the dominant American dirt and speed influences of the modern population.

Cody's Wish is by Curlin out of the Tapit mare Dance Card. Drop a Hint is by Into Mischief out of Allude, by champion sprinter Orientate.

The hypothetical mating remains relatively open. TrueNicks calculates a ten-generation inbreeding coefficient of 1.43 percent, coefficient of relatedness of 1.58 percent and 971 unique ancestors among 2,046 pedigree positions.

The female family adds a particularly attractive robustness signal

Drop a Hint made 20 starts. Imply won 12 times. Refer won four. Deeper in the family, Biblical Strength won 12 races, Balance the Budget nine, Flatoutandfoxy nine, Official seven and Elizabeth Nicole seven.

That evidence cannot establish soundness in the subject. It does establish that the female family has repeatedly produced horses capable of sustaining racing careers and winning multiple times.

For a racing-oriented assessment, that matters.

Mating Evidence and Its Weight

The proprietary systems are favorable overall but differ materially in enthusiasm.

Werk assigns an A rating (+485%), based on the broader Curlin over Harlan's Holiday cross. TrueNicks assigns a B rating with a Variant of 1.54, based on Curlin and his sons over Into Mischief mares.

The underlying TrueNicks population deserves more weight than either letter grade.

Females2717142

Foals of racing age. Source: TrueNicks. Black type supplied by G3 winner Himika, by Curlin, and stakes winner Bam's Bliss Kiss, by Solomini.

The rated cross contains 45 foals of racing age, 26 starters, 22 winners and two stakes winners. That is an 85 percent winner rate among starters and an 8 percent stakes-winner rate. G3 winner Himika, by Curlin, and stakes winner Bam's Bliss Kiss, by Solomini, supply the black type.

The sex distribution is worth noting. Eighteen male foals have produced nine starters and eight winners, with no stakes-winning colt yet. The 27 fillies have produced 17 starters, 14 winners and both stakes winners. The male sample remains too small for a meaningful negative conclusion, while providing limited direct evidence for a high-class colt from this pattern.

The surface data favor dirt strongly, and the average winning distance around seven furlongs supports the speed-to-intermediate projection.

The observed racing evidence carries the greatest weight. Drop a Hint's own record, the durability and current graded quality underneath her, and Cody's Wish's elite dirt profile establish the foundation. The mating systems are supportive rather than determinative.

Final Racing Projection

Hip 206 profiles as a progressive dirt prospect whose most likely mature identity is that of a high-class miler to intermediate-distance colt, with greater developmental appeal at three and beyond than as an early juvenile.

Projection Summary

Class projection
Graded stakes, with a legitimate higher ceiling

The preferred mature range is seven furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, centered strongly around a mile. Nine furlongs remains within the broader developmental range.

The principal strengths are elite dirt speed and class through Cody's Wish, a first dam who demonstrated stakes ability and 20-start durability, a female family with repeated evidence of toughness and winning production, and a broader mating population that strongly favors dirt.

The principal uncertainty is transmission. Cody's Wish has yet to have runners, while Drop a Hint has yet to establish a produce record on the racetrack. The broader Curlin-line/Into Mischief evidence is encouraging without yet demonstrating stakes-winning male production at meaningful scale.

On pedigree evidence, Hip 206 belongs in the graded-stakes projection category. The bloodlines provide a legitimate higher ceiling, while the current evidence supports a more disciplined expectation of a progressive, high-class dirt miler/intermediate horse rather than an early or classic-distance specialist.

One piece of information sits outside the racing assessment but is now known: Hip 206 subsequently sold for $850,000 to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Bridlewood Farm and LaPenta, according to Keeneland's official results. That sale result played no role in the racing projection above.
